- ➤ Wildfire smoke from Canada that made the air hard to breathe is clearing now over lower Michigan—meteorologist Alec Kownacki said it caused breathing issues and that a north—northwest wind could bring more smoke in the coming weeks so sensitive residents should take precautions. Local officials advise staying indoors and wearing KN95 masks if you need to go outside. WNEM

- ➤ The Insurance Alliance of Michigan reports that a Bankrate analysis shows auto insurance costs continue to drop for drivers as a result of bipartisan no-fault reforms from 2019. The reforms have saved drivers over $1,100 per vehicle and shifted Michigan from the highest-cost state to the sixth rank. WNEM

- ➤ The Great Lakes Bay Region Mental Health Partnership got a $5K grant to fund Youth Mental Health First Aid training to help teens with mental health struggles — research shows such programs can cut suicide attempts by 25%. The training is set for Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delta College Midland Downtown Center. MLive
