COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Bay City now displays the 42-foot, 4,600-pound Christmas tree donated by Sue LaRose from Essexville. The tree will be lit at the Santa’s Arrival and Tree Lighting event on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.—community businesses and volunteers work together to keep this holiday tradition alive.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin repairs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge on Dec 1 with single-lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily ($1.6 million project). The work, which includes concrete deck patching, painting and mechanical repairs, will be finished by March 31 (to ease traffic).  WNEM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan DNR officials warned waterfowl hunters to take extra precautions this season as 130 wild birds have tested positive for bird flu—most cases were found in Canada geese, bald eagles, and red-tailed hawks. Hunters are advised to use gloves, process birds in the field, cook waterfowl meat to 165°F, and keep domestic animals away from wild birds.  WNEM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Temperatures are dropping and a local home restoration expert said Bay City residents should insulate pipes, disconnect outdoor hoses, and set their thermostats at 55 degrees or above to prevent burst pipes and costly repairs. He explained these steps help avoid damage from cold weather — residents must also check water shutoffs and furnaces before severe winter sets in.  ABC12
