- ➤ General Motors supported local nonprofits with a $60,000 community impact grant on November 12 to boost STEM education in the Bay Area— the funds were split among the Bay Area Community Foundation, the Bay County Historical Society, and United Way, and an additional $60,000 grant will be awarded today to three Saginaw-area organizations. - ➤ Smith Food Pantry in Bay City has expanded its service from only helping veterans to serving all community members in need—offering food, clothing, and pet supplies as demand grows. The nonprofit will give away Thanksgiving food baskets to veterans on November 14 and host a pop-up pantry on November 19 at 1338 North Johnson Street. ABC12
- ➤ The Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region will hold its 36th Festival of Trees from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16 at the Great Hall Banquet — located at 5121 Bay City Road in Midland — where over 130 decorated trees, wreaths and garlands will be raffled to support community programs. Tickets will cost $5 per person (free for children 6 and under) and a food donation truck will collect nonperishable items to help families in need. MLive
- ➤ Bay Area Community Foundation is launching its first GivingTuesday donation campaign, Threads of Community: Weaving a Tapestry of Generosity. The foundation will host a generosity card event at the Pere Marquette Depot from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on GivingTuesday where attendees can write messages on postcards that will be mailed to support local needs. - ➤ A Meridian Township family suffered two lithium ion battery fires in less than two weeks—one that destroyed their car when headphones ignited in the garage and another that damaged their home when a battery pack went into thermal runaway, leaving them displaced while fire officials warn of rising device dangers. - ➤ Owner Anthony Malenfant — a military veteran — said his Major Skate park is opening a new indoor location at Saginaw's Fashion Square Mall to offer skateboarders a safe option after the outdoor park closed due to hazardous painted surfaces.
