ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Large parts of Michigan received two to three inches of rain last week, which slightly lowered moderate and severe drought levels measured on October 21 while 68% of the state remained abnormally dry. Experts say four consecutive weeks of similar rain will be needed to recharge deep soil—keeping full drought relief in the future. MLive

- ➤ Bay City Central hosted Bay City Western in a rivalry football game on Friday, Oct. 24 where Western won 56-6 — freelance photojournalist Chris Schanz captured the action on and off the field. The game added to the season's excitement for local high school sports. MLive
- ➤ Heritage football beat Saginaw United 39-14 on Oct. 24 — the win lifted their record to 4-5 — and placed the team on the Division 2 playoff bubble. The result leaves Heritage with a slim chance to secure the final playoff spot. MLive
