COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nearly a year after 16-year-old Keigan Atkinson died, his family started the Keigan Legacy Fund to help high school athletes with scholarships and extra expenses (about $6,000 has been raised so far). The fund will be celebrated at a kickoff game on October 17 where fans are encouraged to wear orange and legacy gear to honor his memory.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bay Area Chamber of Commerce will host its Eye Opener Breakfast tomorrow at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bay City—Riverfront where entrepreneurs from Little Pastry Shop, Prost! Wine Bar, and Sandlot Sports will share insights on growth and community impact. Attendees are encouraged to support local businesses by wearing their favorite business T-shirts.  MLive
  • Parlor Doughnuts will open a new shop at 606 N. Euclid Ave on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shop will offer over 20 doughnut flavors while replacing the former YaYa’s Chicken restaurant—customers who sign up ahead may receive a free doughnut.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay City officials have proposed a new fine schedule to ease trash cart violations after public outcry, replacing a flat $200 fine with a warning for the first offense—$25 for the second, $100 for the third, and $200 for the fourth. The new policy may take effect as soon as mid-November after a surge in citations, including 99 on Aug. 8, prompted city leaders to review the ordinance.  MLive

  • Saginaw-area high school football teams released Week6 rankings that showed teams trending upward; several schools claimed conference championships and playoff spots as they prepare for Week7 games—local records and schedules highlight the competitive season.  MLive
