  • Exactly one year after a fire destroyed his Bay Road store, Arabilla Mediterranean Foods owner Ahmad Awawdeh restarted his business by cooking at home and purchasing a food truck—he will serve Mediterranean dishes at the Zilwaukee Community Hall Craft Show this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with plans to expand into Saginaw and Flint.  WNEM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lawmakers in Michigan have proposed a 24% wholesale tax on Marijuana to fund road repairs—after the bill cleared the House the proposal now awaits a Senate vote. Cannabis workers, shop owners, and consumers have raised concerns that the tax will hike prices and hurt the industry—triggering a protest tomorrow at the Michigan Senate Building.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new state budget passed on September 30 includes funding for a college month initiative to boost higher education in Mid-Michigan—veteran educator Craig Douglas shared his insight on the plan's expected impact on students.  ABC12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan lawmakers passed a short-term continuation budget at 2 a.m. today that will fund the state for seven days so that a full budget can be finished this week—state services will keep running normally.  WNEM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Riverview Apartments Bay City, LLC will create 90 new housing units and two storefronts downtown with support from a $4.3 million state Community Revitalization loan. The mixed-use project will add 87,446 square feet over three stories — a $22.2 million redevelopment expected to boost downtown vibrancy and attract new tenants.  WNEM
