- ➤ The Bay County Library System will hold its annual Fire Truck Storytime to mark Fire Prevention Month as local firefighters lead sessions where kids hear a story, learn fire safety and climb into a real fire truck—events will run on Oct. 3, 14, 17 and 21 at various branches with registration required at some sites and walk-ins allowed at others. - ➤ Hundreds of Haitians who settled in Coldwater under Temporary Protected Status risk losing legal status in February if TPS is not extended—some workers at a major pork processing plant have already lost jobs. The uncertainty is raising concerns among residents as they face challenges in securing their future. MLive
- ➤ After reports on September 24th of an alligator, police responded to an Essexville home’s front yard where they found a 3-foot South American crocodile sitting under a crab apple tree — they safely captured the reptile and transported it to Birch Run Zoo. WNEM

- ➤ Little Books of the Diocese of Saginaw marks 25 years of offering gospel booklets that help people pray and fund Catholic programs—started in 2000 by former Bishop Ken Untener. - ➤ Michigan's DNR says deer hunters in archery season will likely see a strong harvest despite risks from heavy snowfall in the U.P.—an ongoing virus outbreak in the south may also affect numbers. - ➤ Bay City has ordered the six-year Halloween display on Chilson Street removed because unsafe wood posts in the right-of-way mean it must come with a permit, insurance, and a layout plan—city officials say this is needed for public safety. The display organizer said he hopes the city will let him keep the poles through Halloween—he will plan a different setup next year. WNEM

- ➤ As fall arrives, doctors warn that cold, flu, COVID-19 and RSV cases are rising and that COVID-19 may be more contagious than last year—people 65 and older can get a vaccine without a prescription.
