- ➤ United Way of Bay County is opening a daycare center at 909 Washington Ave. to help fill a critical shortage of care spots for young children in Bay City. The Bay City Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance on Aug. 12 that lets the organization use Wenonah Park—located two and a half blocks away—for outdoor play. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bay City Commission will review a resolution on Monday, Aug. 18 that requires police officers to knock on doors and announce themselves when serving warrants—aiming to address concerns over no-knock practices and protect Fourth Amendment rights. If approved, the city manager will work with law enforcement and unions to implement the policy once current contracts allow. MLive
- ➤ Bay City will renew its body camera program through 2030 with a $299,773 proposal from Axon Enterprise to equip officers with new hardware + software. City Manager Dana Muscott recommended the five-year agreement at a Monday 6 p.m. City Hall meeting, and funds have been approved for fiscal year 2026. MLive
