- ➤ A new report found Michigan ranked 44th for teacher pay, with new teachers earning $41,600 a year — almost $5,000 below the national average — while MMR began giving blood in the field in Saginaw and Tuscola counties and the Mobile Dental Bus visited Bay City yesterday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meanwhile, a tune-up party moved through Genesee County and will head to Mount Morris tomorrow, and the Cheeseburger in Caseville festival kicked off yesterday and will run for 10 days with car shows, live music and boat races. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Traffic backed up for miles along northbound I-75 in Buena Vista Township around 11:45 a.m. on Friday as crews worked to stop a hazardous materials leak from a truck that released an undisclosed chemical near Holland Road—fire crews reopened one lane after containing the leak. ABC12
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bay City authorities issued a warrant for 25-year-old Danielle J. Skrzypczak after she missed her August 4 plea hearing for felony charges stemming from an alleged attempt to run over another pregnant woman at a baseball field in May — the incident followed a confrontation between the two. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Bay County Sheriff's Marine Patrol unit covers 188 square miles of water and 30 miles of shoreline to keep boaters safe, and Marine Deputy Scott Carmona said they use dive teams, ORV patrols, and drones in rescues such as a 19-minute operation that saved two men from a sinking pontoon boat (including help for a double amputee). They also educate boaters on safety rules and use specialized equipment like a $390,000 safe boat to improve response times. MLive
- ➤ Bay City Commissioner Benjamin Tenney has proposed a ban on no-knock warrants — a policy inspired by Breonna Taylor’s death — and faces resistance from those concerned about officer safety. MLive
- ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel launched Operation Robocall Roundup on Thursday to fight illegal robocalls by sending warning letters to 37 voice provider companies. The multistate project (involving 51 state attorneys general) also warned 100 downstream providers and will remove seven companies from a robocall database. WNEM
