- ➤ St. Hyacinth Church on Cass Avenue in Bay City closed on July 27 after 118 years of service, announced by the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw. The red-brick church echoed its final hymn—marking the quiet end of a long-standing local landmark. MLive

- ➤ Holly's House, a discount store in Bay City with thousands of discounted items, has moved next door from 108 3rd St. to 110-112 3rd St. to offer a larger space plus owner Holly Lubkowski said business is booming. MLive
- ➤ Bonejacked Vintage Apparel at 512 Columbus Ave in Bay City received a $13,000 grant through the Match on Main program to fix its overheating shop. The owners plan to use the funds to repair the AC, install new flooring, upgrade electronic software + improve advertising. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men from St. Helen were convicted in a 2022 murder after separate juries found Troy Bilkovsky and Brian Colden, both 54, guilty of fatally shooting 22-year-old Jesse Loomis during a home break-in in Thetford Township on February 15th + they will face life in prison when sentencing takes place on August 22nd. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Frankenmuth’s Flower Festival is taking place at Grandpa Tiny’s Farm from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3 and draws thousands of visitors from Bay City and nearby areas — the event features a 25-acre sunflower field with 375 million seeds planted and lets each guest pick one free sunflower. The festival has a new theme called 'Chasing the Sun' and offers activities like yoga, a 5K color run and flower crown making — fun events continue until Aug. 3. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bay City will consider a plan to renew its body camera deal with Axon Enterprise at the Commission meeting on Aug. 4. The five-year deal costs $299,773.80 and will start at $55,346.36 in fiscal 2026—rising to $64,747.43 by fiscal 2030 while next year’s funding is approved. MLive
