- ➤ The Boys and Girls Club in Bay City has grown from 25 to nearly 100 daily attendees under director Gib Garcia— a retired teacher and former club member who revitalized the club with new programs like esports, media production and certified babysitting courses. The club now serves children ages 6 to 18 with structured programming, transportation from schools and meals during school days. MLive
- ➤ This weekend, local events offer family fun with the Bay County Fair running through Saturday in Bay City, the Saginaw County Fair in Chesaning, and the Frankenmuth Flower Festival featuring 25 acres of sunflowers — the used book sale, Flint’s Bacchanalia Block Party, and Saginaw’s Gospel Festival add more seasonal choices. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bay City police arrested two Wisconsin men last summer—one was found passed out in an idling Mercedes full of marijuana, an assault rifle, and a handgun—and the second man later took a plea deal for four felony charges. MLive
- ➤ Adam R. Ball from Saginaw and Anthony Thelen from Pewamo pleaded guilty on July 30 for running a scheme that used shell companies and false minority claims to win government contracts and overcharge the government— they agreed to pay a $1.1 million penalty. MLive
