BUSINESS NEWS

  • A former A&W drive-thru at 301 Lafayette Ave.—a 65-year-old community spot that closed in August 2024—is set to become a Detroit Lemon Squeeze and Eat’ori location that will operate year round while keeping its drive-up ordering system.  MLive
  • Governor Whitmer announced that 63 small businesses in Michigan, including one in Bay City that will receive a $13,070.75 grant, will get $1.49 million from the MEDC’s Match on Main program to help revitalize downtown areas. The funding will give each business up to $25,000 for starting or growing their operations.  WNEM
  • Detroit Lemon Squeeze purchased the old A&W building in Bay City in early July and will soon move in; the new location will serve fresh-squeezed lemonade + smash burgers + specialty fries and aims to open by late August or early September while keeping the drive-up ordering system.  WNEM
  • Ada Valley Meat Company recalled 1,065 pounds of cooked frozen ground beef after a consumer complaint reported potential metal contamination, with products bearing pack dates of May 28th (lot code 35156) and May 30th (lot code 35157). The recalled product was distributed in Michigan and other states including California, Delaware, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.  Mid Michigan NOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City closed its doors on Monday after 118 years of service when Bishop Robert Gruss issued an immediate decree following delays in reviewing parishioner concerns. Parishioners are advised to attend services at St. Stanislaus Church or one of the four other local parishes.  ABC12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Great Lakes Bay Region Mental Health Partnership received a $10,000 grant from Huntington Bank to expand its Adult Mental Health First Aid certification training for small businesses and nonprofits. The partnership will hold training sessions in the third and fourth quarters of 2025—beginning Sept. 8 in Bay City and Sept. 22 in Midland—to support low- to moderate-income workers.  WNEM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bay County secured a spot in the PONY League World Series after winning the North Zone Qualifier by scoring 63 runs over four games with wins of 16–1, 11–1, 19–1, and 17–2. The team will battle South Zone Champions on Saturday, August 9 at 2:30 p.m. and will get support from past players to prepare for their trip to Washington.  WNEM
