- ➤ Forgotten Eagles Chapter 3 celebrated its 20th anniversary Thumb Extra-Mile Ride on July 26 and 27 by riding from Mount Pleasant through Caro, Tuscola, Huron, and Sanilac Counties to raise funds and awareness for Michigan veterans, with all money raised donated to local groups. Organizers said the next Freedom Ride will take place on August 9 from Houghton Lake to the Michigan Vietnam Veterans Memorial — with a special 1 p.m. ceremony led by Major Jonathan Turnbull. WNEM
- ➤ St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City closed its doors after 118 years when the Diocese of Saginaw decided to end services amid mounting debt and declining attendance—parishioners were advised to attend St. Stan’s Church on Kosciuszko Avenue. Mid Michigan NOW

- ➤ Bay County Sheriff’s Office said 14-year-old Chloe Ann Ringler went missing on July 26th around 11:30 p.m. in Bangor Township — authorities ask anyone with information to call 989-895-4050. Mid Michigan NOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet visited Buena Vista Township's wastewater treatment plant Monday to push for federal funding that will upgrade the plant's outdated system—she said the project has cleared a major budget hurdle and now awaits final approval in Congress to improve local water safety. WNEM
- ➤ A local public broadcasting station from Delta College Public Media said federal cuts may cost it one-third of its budget—about $1 million in funds for fiscal 2026 and 2027—if Congress does not restore the money in its fall spending bill. General manager Thomas Bennet warned that without new funds, local stations will have to make cuts that viewers will notice. WNEM
- ➤ Mid-Michigan Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet is urging federal funding to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant in Buena Vista Township—upgrades that have not been made in over 35 years—and to expand safe drinking water access in Fenton, Mundy Township, Linden, Bangor Township and Midland. The funding is planned to be included in Fiscal Year 2026 bills and would help protect residents from waterborne illnesses while modernizing outdated equipment. ABC12
- ➤ After touring the plant and discovering the system still uses floppy disks, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet is asking for $500,000 in federal funds in the fiscal year 2026 budget to update Buena Vista Wastewater Treatment Plant and lower the risk of contaminated drinking water.
