- ➤ Local farmers said the corn is 'sweating' by giving off up to 4,000 gallons of moisture per acre each day to cool off during the heat wave, and they warned that continued dryness may lower yields—raising grocery prices if crops suffer. The broadcaster, which operates five TV stations and one radio station that support an emergency alert system for 1.2 million Mid-Michigan residents, said it will have to cut programs and staff if funds are not restored.
