CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Actor Paul Walter Hauser — who got his start in the local zombie film Locked Away at The State Theatre in Bay City — is set for supporting roles in two summer blockbusters; Fantastic Four: First Steps opens today and The Naked Gun will hit theaters on July 31. His early boost in the local film scene paved the way for his rise in big-budget movies. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Multiple beaches are closed or under bacterial contamination advisories due to high E.coli levels, state officials said. The Bay City State Recreation Area was closed on July 21—while advisories have been in place for Arenac County beaches since July 22 and a Roscommon County park since July 8. WNEM
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy awarded nearly $400,000 to remove contaminated soil and groundwater at the future Water Street Lofts complex near the Saginaw River riverwalk. The $23.4 million project will build an 86,368 square foot three-story building with 88 affordable housing units and commercial space, with construction set to finish by 2027. Mid Michigan NOW

- ➤ Bay City commissioners asked city manager Dana Muscott to invite Bay City Bridge Partners officials to update on the completed work and future maintenance schedule for the Independence and Liberty bridges — the officials have not attended a commission meeting in several months amid local protests over tolls. - ➤ Tom Keller will take over as president and CEO of McLaren Bay Region on Aug. 11. Chairman Gary Bosco said his appointment will guide major projects to improve care for local patients. ABC12
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy awarded a $400,000 Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to support a project that will build 89 new affordable housing units in Bay City plus Bay City provided a $500,000 loan and is seeking additional financing through Tax Increment Financing for the Water Street Lofts project.
