- ➤ Bay County residents can enjoy the 70th Munger Potato Festival from July 24 to 27 with demolition derbies, live music and family fun including an inflatable adventure park for kids and a mechanical bull ride for adults—tickets cost $15 for adults and teens and $6 for children. The event also features a hometown parade, a 5K Spud Run and the crowning of the Potato Festival Queen starting Thursday at 4 p.m. MLive

- ➤ Brenden Mulligan allegedly robbed Independent Bank of $6,600 at gunpoint and police caught him Tuesday afternoon at a local motel—after a 24-hour manhunt by Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Bay City police and the FBI. MLive
- ➤ A Bay City woman accused of starving her 4-year-old son to death remained in jail after her $250,000 bond was not lowered at her Monday court appearance—Judge Tim Kelly said the bond decision would be revisited at a preliminary hearing over 60 days later. ABC12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A grant of more than $4.6 million will be used to rehabilitate 6,400 feet of runway and update Taxiway A lighting and signage at MBS International Airport—efforts that will boost safety, support regional travel, and create construction jobs for the local economy. Mid Michigan NOW
- ➤ Bay City Commission will vote Monday, July 21, on a resolution to use $250,000 in CDBG funds to create a drop-in homeless center at Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. The funds will pay for renovations including a new entryway, laundry, bathrooms, shower rooms and meeting areas — clearing the way for contractor selection and construction — after all public hearings are completed.
