CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jessie A. Bennett, a man from Caro, faced renewed felony charges after authorities reissued a case that alleged he ran a methamphetamine + fentanyl operation in northern Bay County following a lengthy investigation after earlier charges were dismissed. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pamela Pugh, head of the Michigan State Board of Education, launched her campaign on July 17 for the vacant 35th District State Senate seat covering Saginaw, Bay and Midland counties. She said she will protect schools, health services and local roads—helping small businesses—and return power to local people. WNEM
- ➤ Bay City commissioners will vote on Monday, July 21 to decide if the city will use automated license plate readers from Flock Group Inc to aid police investigations—costing $45,000 this fiscal year and $39,000 the next—as the cameras capture vehicle plates for 30 days. MLive
- ➤ On July 17, the city and contractor Serenus Johnson agreed to pay a total of $100,000 to the trustee of the State Theatre bankruptcy suit—$70,000 from the city and $30,000 from the contractor—with payment due in 15 days and parties given 21 days to object. MLive
