- ➤ Students in Bay City joined sailing lessons on July 10 using small Feva boats—teachers helped kids learn basic skills on the Saginaw River near Wenonah Park. The Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Association now encourages new signups to build confidence and independence on the water. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bay County Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham said police did not arrest an armed robber who targeted the Independent Bank in Bangor Township on July 14 at about 12:20 p.m. despite using drones+K9 units to search for him. MLive
- ➤ A 27-year-old man was arrested Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. in Bay County after the bank robbery at Independent Bank that took place just over 24 hours earlier—Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham said deputies, Bay City police, and FBI agents made the arrest. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kawkawlin Township board approved a special assessment on July 14 to offset lost funds after a clerical error disqualified a voter-approved fire millage. Township officials plan to notify the public and schedule two hearings as they have already spent more than $182,000 from their general fund and savings for fire services in 2025 — all while preparing a new millage for the upcoming 2026 election. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation announced that work on the northbound lanes of the Zilwaukee Bridge will begin Monday, Aug. 4 and run until Nov. 14, closing the roadway from Kochville to Wadsworth roads for expansion joint repair, deck patching and resealing — traffic will be detoured via southbound I-75 to I-675 northbound and along key ramps. The project is expected to extend the bridge’s service life. WNEM
