- ➤ Pinconning will hold its Cheesetown Festival on June 20 and 21 to celebrate its dairy heritage and feature a Mac and Cheese cookoff between local favorites Pinconning Cheese Co and Wilson’s Cheese Shoppe—this event will also have a parade, vendor booths, family activities and fireworks. MLive

- ➤ Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at Gas Buddy, said Iran launched missiles on June 13 in response to an Israeli strike—spurring a possible increase in mid-Michigan gas prices up to $3.49 while staying below four dollars; he also noted that diesel prices are expected to rise as global oil supplies adjust. - ➤ Bay City Public Schools board voted this week to lay off four district staff members, including a teacher, as the district faces a $6.7 million shortfall. Records revealed spending on expensive dinners and overseas trips – actions that have raised concerns about its fiscal decisions. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bill sponsored by Rep. Brad Paquette—R-37—proposes to ban dyes and additives such as brominated vegetable oil and Blue 1 from school meals in Holt, with changes set for July 1, 2028. Dietitian Mukherjee and Holt Public Schools' food director support the measure, saying it could help address health concerns and improve meal quality. WNEM
- ➤ The state House approved a bill on June 11 to sell the abandoned Standish Maximum Correctional Facility — a 604-bed prison located about 27 miles north of Bay City — with plans to repurpose it for healthcare to ease the state’s shortage of psychiatric beds; the bill will now move to the state Senate for review.
