COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bay City Boat Lines and local sponsors will bring free narrated history boat tours in July that share Bay City’s shipbuilding and maritime lore on a two-hour cruise from Wenonah Park. Each household may reserve one tour date in July: July 7-10, July 14-17, July 21-24, and July 28-31, and guests should arrive by 9:30 a.m.—the tour departs at 10 a.m.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • Bay City police charged ex-con Jack A. Biskner with armed robbery and larceny after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint in his home on Sept. 27, and he is set for a preliminary examination on June 18—nearly two years after the incident occurred.  MLive
  • A Saginaw woman was charged with crashing into a pedestrian in Bay City's South End on June 1 at about 10 p.m. after telling police she was under the influence.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michael Bacigalupo — the former director of the historic State Theatre — denied that he misused $950,000 in loans meant for the venue and said his actions did not cause its bankruptcy. His legal team filed a response on June 11 while a federal lawsuit alleges he and two others diverted the funds for a public park project.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • EGLE gave $600,000 in Watershed Council grants to three local groups—Bay County Soil Conservation District in Bay City got $40,000, Flint’s Water Pollution Control got $39,970, and Gladwin Conservation District got nearly $40,000—to support water conservation and education. The projects must be finished within one year and were chosen from 42 applications that asked for about $1.5 million.  WNEM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State transportation officials said the southbound lanes of I-75 on the Zilwaukee Bridge reopened early after nearly two months of work—while the northbound lanes will close for repair on Aug. 1. They said the project cost $2.9 million and detour plans will be shared closer to the start date.  MLive
  • A settlement was reached through mediation in a bankruptcy lawsuit filed by a State Theatre trustee in December 2024 against Bay City and two local businesses — Clements Electric and Serenus Johnson and Son Construction — over disputed loans for Wenonah Park improvements. City commissioners will vote on the settlement terms on Monday, June 16.  WNEM
