COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The fourth annual Get Youth Outdoors Day will take place this Saturday, June 6 at Bluegill Boat Launch to offer local youth free outdoor activities. Organizers say the event will encourage children to explore nature.  ABC12
  • The 2026 Give Local Bay event raised over $219,000 and saw record participation from donors supporting nonprofits in Bay and Arenac Counties. The Bay Area Community Foundation said the annual campaign has generated over $1.77 million in total community impact since its 2015 launch.  Mid Michigan NOW
  • Hidden Harvest will host Celebrating Good Tastes on Wednesday, June 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Dow Diamond in Midland; the nonprofit event features live music, auction, and food tastings and will support efforts to rescue surplus food and reduce hunger in the region.  Mid Michigan NOW
  • White Orthodontics in Saginaw Township will host a family block party on Saturday, June 6 at 1800 Midland Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event offers free fitted mouthguards plus a ball hockey tournament organized by Saginaw Hockey and features local vendors and outdoor games.  MLive

  • A long-awaited brewery and pub opened downtown last week following a ribbon cutting by city leaders. North Peak Brewing Co. and Kilkenny’s Irish Public House, delayed nearly a decade, now offers handcrafted beers + food in the renovated Stein Haus and Atrium buildings.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Union Township will shut off water at 8 a.m. today for repairs on Bluegrass Road—residents may face low pressure or no service. Residents must boil water for five minutes or use bottled water when service resumes, and the advisory will remain until lab tests confirm safety, expected by Friday.  ABC12

HEALTH NEWS

  • McLaren Bay Region plans to demolish six homes along Midland Road for a parking lot expansion and new green space to improve patient access at its Bangor Township campus. The work is expected to finish before the end of the year.  ABC12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Unionville-Sebewaing senior Ryleigh Ewald defended her discus title on Wed, May 27 with a personal-best 126-7 at the state finals; Bay City-area athletes earned All-State honors, including Briann McGee’s sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles.  MLive
  • Bay City area high school baseball regionals are set to begin Wednesday, June 3 with semifinal games across four divisions and finals on Saturday at varied locations. The schedule also features a list of past champions from local tournaments.  MLive
  • Five high school baseball district champions in the Saginaw area will compete in regional semifinals beginning Wednesday — Swan Valley will face Bay City John Glenn at 4 p.m. at the high school, while other teams play at East Tawas, Montrose and Fowler.  MLive
