SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Valeria Costilla’s move to shortstop — a first for her — spurred the All Saints softball team to a 27-win season with a 12-game winning streak, earning her Athlete of the Week honor. The team heads to the Division 3 district tournament in Ithaca today. MLive
- ➤ Essexville Garber girls soccer won the Division 3 district title with a 3-2 win over Flint Powers today; the victory sends them to Tuesday's regional semifinal at Williamston (7 p.m.). Bay City Western fell 3-2 to Mount Pleasant on its home field in the Division 2 district final. MLive
- ➤ Bay City Western captured its third straight Division 1 district championship with wins over Saginaw Heritage (10-0) and Midland (6-0) after three losses and will face Traverse City Central in Mount Pleasant at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. MLive
- ➤ High school baseball district tournaments from May 29 to 30 ended with Standish-Sterling capturing its fifth straight title with wins over Midland Bullock Creek and Gladwin while Unionville-Sebewaing claimed the Division 4 crown with a 5-1 win over Bay City All Saints — teams advance to regional semifinals Wednesday at local fields. - ➤ Freeland won its fourth straight district title after a 7-0 win over Standish-Sterling in a Division 3 girls soccer final at Swan Valley on Saturday. The team will play Fremont in a regional semifinal Tuesday at Clare. MLive
