ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On May 29, a head-on crash on M-13 near the Town and Country store killed 18-year-old Aiden Alexander (a newly graduated student) and seriously injured his 16-year-old sister Halen (taken to a Bay City hospital) when a 68-year-old driver from Tawas crossed into the southbound lane, and the driver is now in critical condition at MyMichigan Medical Center as investigators review the cause. - ➤ A Bay City mother was arrested on a first-degree child abuse charge after responders found her 4-year-old son unresponsive on October 18 and an autopsy revealed a skeletal appearance from extreme malnutrition—records show she skipped 31 special needs appointments in nine months. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bay City Public Schools will hold a board vote on June 9 to decide on the layoff of five employees—two teachers and three support staff—for the 2025-2026 school year, and the teachers’ union president said he will work to recall the staff once bargaining rights are restored. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan Sugar moved sugar beet process water from its Bay City facility to a Carrollton Township site and began using aerators—equipment that circulates water and sprays deodorizer—to reduce odors from the organic material. Company officials met with Carrollton Township representatives to explain the steps, though they said the smell cannot be completely eliminated. MLive
