- ➤ St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City did not close as planned because Bishop Robert Gruss met with about 250 parishioners on May 27 to gather feedback, and officials have put the closure on hold. No timetable has been set for a final decision—parish leaders said the meeting was closed to the public. MLive
- ➤ Residents in mid-Michigan will find many family-friendly events in June as the Antique Festival runs May 31—June 1 at the Midland County Fairgrounds, the Curwood Festival takes place June 5—8 in Owosso, and a classic car tour is set for Flint June 6—11. Additional events include Auburn Cornfest from June 18—22, a Juneteenth celebration and a boating plus food truck event on June 21, and the Great Lakes Bay Pride Festival in Saginaw on June 28. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Don Carlyon, Delta College’s longest-serving president from 1964 until 1992, died Tuesday, May 27, at age 100—he helped fix a dangerous road and built a scholarship that benefits many students. Colleagues remembered him as a trusted leader who mentored youth and was honored at local parades and festivals. MLive
- ➤ Three teachers from Elms Elementary School in Flushing spent the night on the school roof after students raised over $10,300 for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge. The funds will support heart health research and awareness programs—marking a successful student effort in the jump rope event. ABC12
