COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 250 parishioners met on Tuesday in a closed meeting with Bishop Robert Gruss and Fr. Nicolas Coffaro to learn that plans to close St. Hyacinth Church have been paused after a valid appeal. Weekend Mass services will continue as scheduled—while further consultation takes place about the church’s future.  WNEM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum at Saginaw Valley State University will host the 2025 Regional Biennial Juried Sculpture Exhibition from June 7 through Aug. 30, featuring over 50 sculptures by artists from mid-Michigan and states including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania. The winners of the first- through fourth-place awards with monetary prizes will be announced at the opening reception on Saturday, June 7.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delta College Planetarium in downtown Bay City will host a series of space-themed shows in June that let visitors explore topics from the solar system to the Great Lakes. The schedule includes family-friendly adventures and immersive art experiences—showing guided cosmic tours and interactive presentations on select weekdays and weekends.  MLive
  • Don Carlyon, the longtime Delta College leader who helped shape Bay City’s education for nearly thirty years, died on May 27 at 100—his legacy lives on through a scholarship fund set up in his and his wife Betty’s name.  MLive
