Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 24th of May.
Good morning, Bay City.
A tree-planting project to beautify downtown Bay City launched this week after the Downtown Development Authority teamed with the latest class of the Leadership Bay County program.
The project replaces diseased trees with American Sentry Lindens along Washington Avenue and Water Street and places decorative stones and glass to improve drainage—funded by a $28,000 fundraiser.
Bay City businesses look forward to changes in Feet on the Street as only a section of Third Street is closed to cars for outdoor events—store owners noted strong foot traffic on the first day and plan sales, music, and dancing to attract more customers.
This summer tradition is set to boost local activity even as other streets remain open.
Gas prices in mid-Michigan increased this week due to a price cycle and a refinery issue near Joliet, though the average is still 44 cents lower than this time last year—drivers heading north may find cheaper fuel options in the Upper Peninsula.
Diesel prices are close to gasoline this spring and are expected to change as market demands shift later in the summer.
