COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Midland Street Business District invites community members, visitors, and business owners to complete a short, anonymous survey to help shape future improvements, events, and promotions in the area. Feedback will guide the district's vision moving forward.  WNEM
  • Buena Vista Township will host a meeting today at its township hall (3945 E. Holland) to connect residents with housing officials and financial lenders about a $1.4M state funding initiative that will restore 40 homes and build 10 new manufactured homes. The event aims to support aging residents and boost local neighborhoods.  MLive
  • Kalvin's Jam will feature local music on Saturday, May 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Hillside Church in Mundy Township.  ABC12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 'Tri For Hope' movie premiere took place May 20 in Bay City *bringing together film lovers* to celebrate local talent. Organizers say more cultural screenings are planned to engage the community.  ABC12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay City lost 155 residents in 2024-25, the largest drop among Bay County communities according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Other areas saw smaller declines that brought the county total loss to 309 residents.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school sports in Bay County delivered wins over the weekend — the Cougars earned a Blue championship share and Standish-Sterling secured the JPC title. Essexville Garber extended winning streaks, and district games will continue today and later this week.  MLive
  • Saginaw-area softball teams begin pre-district games Tuesday, May 26, with semifinals and finals on May 29 or May 30. Key players such as Maeli Akin (Ithaca), Charli Alcorn (Michigan Lutheran Seminary), Ashlyn Bentoski (Millington), and Izzy Coffel (Swan Valley) are set to boost playoff hopes.  MLive
