- ➤ Bay City officials rejected a toll discount deal from Bay City Bridge Partners on Feb 28 and pieces of the old Lafayette Bridge are now on their way to Purdue University for study—this deal had conditions that kept details secret. Other news includes a mid-Michigan bridal shop in Auburn closing after 40 years, Essexville-Hampton schools starting a search for a new superintendent, three arrests for a concealed gun near Handy Middle School, and bids opening for the former Wenona School as local plans for growth and safety take shape. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation announced eight major road closures for highway repairs this week — including lane closures on U.S. 131 in Grand Rapids, I-94 in Jackson and Washtenaw, U.S. 2 in Mackinac, and a lane closure on M-13 in Bay County beginning Friday — and drivers should follow posted detours during these weather-dependent work zones. Dozens of additional road projects will affect traffic from yesterday through next Saturday. MLive
