- ➤ Bay City leaders are easing parking problems for the Wednesdays in the Park Free Summer Concert Series by having Bay Metro offer free rides to help visitors reach the concerts. Buses will pick up riders from Veterans Memorial Park (starting at 5:30 p.m.) and from Adams and 5th streets (starting at 5:45 p.m.) before arriving at Wenonah Park at 9 p.m. ABC12

- ➤ Two Bay City retailers are concerned that the summer-long closure of 3rd Street for the Feet on the Street event will reduce customer access and affect their revenue. Rick Windt of G.T. Homestead and Holly Lubkowski of Holly’s House said they were not consulted on the change and worry that it will create obstacles for customers, especially those needing to load large items into their vehicles. - ➤ On Monday, a paroled bank robber named Shane Gillette, 38, tried to speak with officers at the Bay County Law Enforcement Center but when his call went unanswered he repeatedly hit the locked door—a sheriff’s deputy later subdued him and records show he spat on an officer. ABC12
- ➤ A Bay City man, Christopher A. Williams, was arrested after staff reported he exposed himself at a 7-Eleven on March 28 and later at Save A Lot on April 4 — he faces two counts of aggravated indecent exposure and one count as a sexually delinquent person and will appear for a preliminary examination on June 6. - ➤ Kids planted raised garden beds+learned healthy habits at Boys & Girls Clubs in six locations in Saginaw and Bay Counties as part of the Healthy Habits: Edible Education program. Expert agronomists from Michigan Sugar Company taught them to plant tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, mint+and other vegetables, with the mint set for use in a special white chocolate-mint ice cream project. - ➤ High school students from the Great Lakes Bay Region gathered in Midland on Thursday to pitch concession stand business ideas at the ‘Fore Our Future’ Youth entrepreneurship competition—teams presented their plans to judges and the top four will sell their products at the LPGA Dow Championship in June. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bay City Commissioners will vote Monday, May 19 on a resolution asking City Manager Dana Muscott to set target dates for bids on roof repairs and asbestos removal at the closed Fire Station 5 on the West Side. The resolution follows a March decision to create a timeline for fixing the 1965 building, which closed on July 15 due to poor condition and funding issues — engineer proposals are expected by Nov. 7 — before bids open in January. - ➤ Bay City’s privatized bridge will be used by Purdue University’s S-BRITE program—examining its aging condition—and local officials hope the study will guide future decisions on privatizing key infrastructure. MLive
