- ➤ Crews began preparing a vacant lot in Kochville Township for a new Dairy Queen Grill & Chill site expected to open this August (adjacent to a Meijer store on Tittabawassee near Bay Road). The 2,747 sqft facility will be the second Dairy Queen in Saginaw County. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A free walking tour of Oakwood Mausoleum is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at 5950 Gratiot Road. The Castle Museum of Saginaw County History leads the tour (registration is required) as visitors explore the century-old monument. MLive
- ➤ Bay City broke ground on the Jefferson Project Sculpture Garden (part of an art district with outdoor exhibits, a garden, market area and amphitheater) Friday morning. The project will support local artists and create a vibrant creative space. Mid Michigan NOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bay County Community Center has opened registration for its Summer Recreation Program for kids 5 to 14, running June 8-July 30, Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Campers pay $140, must be 5 by June 10, and will enjoy sports, field trips and arts and crafts with meals. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bangor Township officials will consider a pilot tax break on Monday, May 18 at township hall (3921 Wheeler Road) for the proposed 50-unit Great Lakes Recovery Apartments behind Bay City Mall. The development will offer drug- and alcohol-free recovery housing funded by tax credits, state appropriations, and opioid settlement funds. MLive

- ➤ Bay County high school sports showcased Pinconning’s 10 home runs in softball and Bay City Central’s Lauren Klawon reaching state finals in tennis—other teams also posted record-setting performances in baseball, soccer and softball as games continue Friday through Monday. MLive
