  • The Arc of Bay County hosts its annual Strawberry Festival Fundraiser on Wednesday, June 17 at 709 Columbus Ave in Bay City — the block party offers homemade strawberry shortcakes for an $8 donation, DJ, dancing, face painting, a bounce house, raffles and an online auction to support services for people with disabilities.  MLive

  • On May 6, a family's home in Williams Township burned down, resulting in the loss of critical medical equipment for 35-year-old Michael — a survivor of a severe car crash in 2005 — as they seek help from the community.  WNEM

  • A Bay City foundry will create 25 jobs with a $2.2M expansion supported by state funds, and a new bakery on Columbus Avenue has opened offering nostalgic family recipes. Five Below is set to open at the Town Center, promising low-priced shopping for local residents.  MLive

  • Bay City Public Schools is recruiting paraprofessionals and special education teachers for elementary and middle schools, with positions available today. Applicants will enjoy benefits (full-year medical, free vision and dental) and paid time off, plus wages from ($14.28 to $17.55) an hour.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan State Police and local agencies will patrol for drivers not wearing seat belts from May 18 to 31 as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign + the effort supports the SAFER by 2030 initiative to reduce road fatalities.  WNEM
  • The Michigan Natural Resources Commission approved changes to deer hunting rules for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. New rules include limiting antlerless draws in the Upper Peninsula + shortening the muzzleloader season and launching a pilot program to earn a second buck in the Lower Peninsula.  ABC12

  • Bay City Central made history with its first home playoff win, 12-9 over Davison at Engel Stadium with three final-quarter goals & a record 12-goal postseason performance. They will face Swartz Creek in the Division 1 regional semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.  MLive
  • Flint-area girls soccer district play will begin May 19 with matchups set across multiple divisions, including Bay City's John Glenn hosting Bay City Central at John Glenn High School and Goodrich — entering state play as Division 3 top seed; games will continue through May 29.  MLive
