- ➤ Local heroes were honored on Tuesday, May 13, when new names were added to the Honor Roll Wall that recognizes employees for their military service. Shelley Kozuch and Public Safety Director Caleb Rowell led the update (using community input since 2022) to include names such as Kozuch’s great uncle, Walter 'Buddy' Wozniak (a veteran of World War II and the Korean War). - ➤ Bay City Western High School held its Garden Gala prom on May 10 at the Great Hall and Banquet Center in Midland. More than 300 students attended the event—prom royalty crowned senior Kendall Cornelius as queen and senior Andrew Beardsley as king. MLive
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Bay Future launched a study to fill Bay County’s empty storefronts using over $100,000 in grant money — the study will analyze market trends and demographic shifts on key corridors. Jim Reaume said the findings, expected by year end, will guide efforts to bring high-wage industries and revive local business capacity. ABC12

- ➤ Parts of Bay City’s demolished Lafayette Bridge have begun arriving at Purdue University’s Bridge Component Gallery to help train engineering students on real steel inspection and maintenance techniques. The pieces were set aside during a $112 million project that will finish by summer 2027 (joining contributions from over 20 states). MLive

- ➤ Illinois officials have resumed work to keep invasive carp out of Lake Michigan as the administration promised not to claw back federal funds—covering 90% of the $1.2 billion carp barrier project—if Illinois finalizes a property deal by July 1; construction began in January and the project will finish by 2032 with Michigan and Illinois sharing remaining costs.
