- ➤ Bay Future hired Bay City native Mark Hitchcock as the new economic development manager on May 12. The decorated Army veteran used his local leadership experience and regional knowledge to help expand business and create jobs across the county—bringing fresh ideas to the community. MLive
- ➤ Bay Future Inc. has begun studying four commercial districts in Bay County—Woodside Avenue in Essexville, Wilder Road, Euclid Avenue, and the M-13 corridor—to plan for future economic growth. The study reviews trends, market data and site readiness to help guide local development and attract high-wage industries. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ SVSU's Board of Control approved three new academic programs on May 9 and the university will offer a dual master's program in health administration and public health — a bachelor's degree in economics and data — and a graduate certificate in workplace conflict management starting this Fall. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan DNR paused its program to capture and euthanize geese using gas after concerns from lawmakers and residents, and it will not issue any permits this year — it said it will focus on non-lethal methods like habitat modification and repellents while it studies alternative options. WNEM
