  • Mustard Seed Shelter has opened registration for its sixth annual golf outing Sowing Seeds of Hope on Aug. 15 at Beech Hollow Golf Course in Freeland. The four-person scramble event honoring Jillian Paetz Brooks aims to raise $30,000 for the shelter's daily operations.  MLive

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and local drivers are reminded to put down distractions as motorcycles return to the roads. Spokesperson Merry Garrett (ABATE of Michigan) said careful driving is needed to prevent fatal accidents.  WNEM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • North Peak Brewing Co. and Kilkenny’s Irish Public House in downtown Bay City will open Thursday, May 28 — a ribbon-cutting ceremony starts at noon followed by immediate public access after years of delays and extensive site cleanup.  MLive
  • That Guys BBQ and Grill, a family-run restaurant, opened for business Thursday afternoon with a ribbon cutting (4:15 p.m.) on South Euclid Avenue. The business has won awards for brisket, wings, and burgers, and owner Greg Buzzard invited locals to try its five homemade sauces.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz spoke at Saginaw Valley State University as part of the Spartan Bus Tour (May 6 and 7) that made stops across Saginaw, Bay and Genesee counties. He released a sturgeon at Wenonah Park to boost awareness of MSU alumni activities.  WNEM
  • The Miss Bay County Scholarship Program invites young women (ages 18 to 28) and teens (ages 13 to 17) to apply for its pageant on Aug. 16 in Bay City; contestants will compete in interview, talent, on stage and evening gown, with winners representing Bay County at the Miss Michigan Pageant 2027.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Family & Children Services of Mid-Michigan appointed Jodi Scorsone as interim CEO and she will take over on May 14 — she replaces Joseph Blewett, who is leaving for a new professional opportunity. Scorsone plans to focus on expanding mental health care and community services.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sleep Dr. Chris, a double-board-certified pediatric neurologist who had a near-fatal asthma attack as a child, now runs Quality Sleep and Neurology PC in Saginaw Township to help families with sleep health and has written a children’s book called Sweet Dreams to teach kids about sleep.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the midway point in the 2026 season, Bay County high school baseball teams are competing for stat titles. Bay City All Saints, Western, Glenn, Central and others lead in batting, runs and pitching at their local schools.  MLive
