Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 6th of May.
Good morning, Bay City.
St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City will hold its final Mass on May 27 and close on May 28 — its closure driven by declining attendance and over $1.1 million in debt — with St. Stanislaus Kostka Church becoming the sole worship site for Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.
The 2025 Bay City Rib Festival will take place from July 24-27 at Veterans Memorial Park and will feature national music acts such as Sebastian Bach, Blue Oyster Cult and Trace Atkins along with BBQ vendors from Australia, Florida, Kentucky and Virginia.
The event will also offer a beer tent, family entertainment and craft vendors to draw local support.
Commissioner Joseph Charlebois proposed a resolution that directed city manager Dana Muscott to set a timeline for receiving bids and funding options for critical roof and interior repairs at Fire Station 5, which closed in July due to black mold and poor conditions (bids were due by Aug. 15) while estimated repair costs were about $386,318.
At the May 5 city commission meeting, officials discussed plans to invest $5 million from a 75-year lease of two drawbridges in street repairs and matching grants; they also considered a millage that could generate up to $1.3 million annually for local road improvements.
