- ➤ A new art contest will invite mid-Michigan veterans to share their creative expressions on mental health and personal battles to honor Corporal Benjamin P. Gougeon and support local veterans through proceeds going to the Bay Veterans Foundation. Applications will be accepted until May 30 plus artwork will be delivered by Aug. 15 with judging from Aug. 15 to Aug. 30 and an awards reception on Sept. 20. WNEM

- ➤ Delta College Planetarium in downtown Bay City will host several space exploration events in May that offer interactive shows on the solar system and beyond. The facility (located at 100 Center Ave) will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday from 1 to 7:30 p.m., while tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for others. - ➤ A new surgical center using advanced technology opened at Saginaw County Animal Care & Control on April 30th at 5615 Bay Road to speed animal clearance and offer low-cost services such as sterilization, microchipping and vaccinations.
