CRIME NEWS
- ➤ After leaving a mental health test on April 27, a Bay County man named James M. Johnson allegedly stabbed his older brother in the back at a home on Carol Drive in Hampton Township and was arraigned on April 28 on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and malicious destruction of a building. - ➤ Saginaw therapist Twannie L. Gray launched The GRAY Effect, a 10-week program at the county jail that teaches inmates with gun charges to use emotional intelligence and mindfulness, and nine participants completed it on April 10. The next session begins today with 10 to 15 inmates as the jail and sheriff’s office work to reduce gun violence — aiming to help break the cycle of trauma. MLive

- ➤ Business owners at My Secret Garden and Saginaw Bay Trading Co said federal tariffs have raised prices and created shortages in downtown Bay City, as vendors add surcharges and cancel orders. - ➤ The Bay County Area Transportation Study invites Bay City residents to review and comment on its proposed Transportation Improvement Plan for 2026-2029—covering roads, bridges, transit and non-motorized projects. The public comment period runs through May 28. WNEM
- ➤ Michigan residents must update their driver’s license or ID to a REAL ID by May 7 if they plan to fly or enter certain federal facilities; they need to visit a Secretary of State office with their current license and acceptable proof of identity.
