- ➤ A century-old grain elevator in Pinconning caught fire early Tuesday, April 29—more than 10 fire departments responded near 100 North Mable Road and a firefighter was taken to the hospital as crews battled the blaze and destroyed multiple buildings. MLive

- ➤ Corning announced it is speeding up its advanced manufacturing work in Saginaw County using a $1.5 billion investment to meet growing U.S.-made solar component demand. The upgraded facility is set to add 400 new jobs—part of a plan to create 1,500 high-paying local jobs. MLive

- ➤ Police said that 31-year-old Deon K. Haynes was ambushed when he stepped onto his mother's porch in Buena Vista Township at about 3:55 a.m. Saturday and surveillance cameras recorded him running as an unknown gunman fired additional shots—officials say the killing appears to be a targeted setup. - ➤ Michigan State Police are asking the public to search for Beverly Hoffman, a 78-year-old missing from Pinconning whose 2020 black Ford Escape was found on April 28—she may be suffering from a medical condition. Mid Michigan NOW

- ➤ Students from local schools in Saginaw and Bay City competed in the 12th A.H. Nickless Innovation Award contest on April 26 at Saginaw Valley State University and won over $62,500 in scholarships and STEM grants; teams from Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy and John Glenn High School took first, second, and third places. The Altitude Angels secured first place with an oxygen-sensing device for pilots—earning each member a $5,000 scholarship—and a $20,000 grant while all winners received customized plaques. MLive
