COMMUNITY NEWS

  • About 800 volunteers worked at 39 locations during the annual Day of Caring across Bay County, completing community projects and gathering at Wenonah Park for lunch — a tradition that has united the community for 15 years.  ABC12
  • The Miracle League is planning an expansion in Bay City by proposing Defoe Park as its inclusive field for athletes with disabilities and hosting a Trivia Night fundraiser Saturday, May 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall (1021 Woodside Avenue) in Essexville.  WNEM
  • Stan Bromberg, a longtime Bay City baseball coach and civic leader, died Thursday from kidney issues at 85. He helped popularize local baseball and coached the Terminue Muffler team (a powerhouse in the Stan Musial League) while serving on several community boards.  MLive
  • Ground was broken for a new playground expansion at Wenonah Park on Friday, Apr. 24 — the project will create a fenced play area for children from infants to age 3 at 111 Center Ave.  Mid Michigan NOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teens from six mid-Michigan high schools will compete at the FIRST Robotics national championship in Houston from April 29 to May 2 after advancing from a state tournament at Saginaw Valley State University (3 from Saginaw, 2 from Midland, and 1 from Bay county).  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • John Glenn won a dramatic softball doubleheader on April 23 with a 7-run rally in the final inning that turned a 14-8 deficit into a 15-14 walkoff win at Haslett. Coach John Busch credited quick thinking for the epic comeback.  MLive
