- ➤ The Bay Area Community Foundation is preparing Bay County’s 11th annual 24-hour Give Local Bay event on Tuesday, May 6—an effort to support over 60 nonprofits in Bay and Arenac counties through activities like a scavenger hunt and dunk tank challenge with in-person donation options at Pere Marquette Depot until 5:00 p.m. Additional highlights include a cornhole bonus challenge, ice cream sales with matching incentives, and a closing celebration at Tri-City Brewing Company. - ➤ Halla Mechatronics announced plans to expand by purchasing two 140,000-square-foot facilities in Williams Township as part of an $8.5 million investment that will house engineering offices and research testing labs. The expansion is expected to create up to 43 jobs with an average wage of $56.40 an hour and includes a $473,000 performance-based state grant. ABC12

- ➤ Monarch butterflies that spent the winter in Mexico are making their way north and volunteers with Journey North have spotted them as far as Illinois and Virginia. Experts say the butterflies depend on milkweed— the only plant they use to lay eggs— while conservation efforts work to help reverse a 90% population decline. MLive
