GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Applications are now accepted to fill the 1st Ward commission seat left by Stephen Prince, who resigned earlier this month due to personal changes. The new commissioner will serve until Dec. 31, 2026 and completed applications with required documents must be submitted by 4 p.m. Monday, June 9 at the city manager's office & online.  MLive
  • Bay City's Veterans Memorial Bridge had one westbound lane open during an overnight inspection that ran from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. today—MDOT set up the process to prepare for winter maintenance—and aimed to reduce traffic impacts from the nearby Lafayette Avenue bridge closure.  MLive

  • Michigan's statewide trout fishing season and the Lower Peninsula walleye and northern pike seasons will open Saturday, April 26. Anglers are advised to check local roads for ice storm damage — and to clean their gear to avoid spreading invasive species.  MLive
