- ➤ Barney's Bakehouse Bakery will move from its S. Van Buren & 16th streets location to a new spot on Saginaw Street downtown in June so it can offer more parking and a larger space. Owner Jarrid Weighman said the new location will also expand its Grab & Go line to serve customers better. WNEM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ICE contacted the Bay, Saginaw, and Tuscola sheriff departments to ask if they want to join the 287(g) program to help with immigration enforcement; only Jackson County has signed up so far. The agencies are researching the program – which trains deputies to serve federal warrants – amid concerns it may lead to racial profiling and extra costs. ABC12
- ➤ City officials said the DoubleTree Hotel’s sudden foreclosure and change of ownership raised concerns—especially after more than $6.7 million was invested. Manager Dana Muscott said the city was not liable for the hotel’s debt—leaving the matter unresolved. MLive
- ➤ Fix MI State is hosting the Pothole Payback Contest that will award up to $758 to five drivers for repairing pothole damage. The contest runs through June—each driver may submit one entry per month with winners notified the following month. WNEM
- ➤ Bay County did not agree to a toll discount deal offered by Bay City Bridge Partners for county vehicles—officials plan to include toll costs of about $600,000 a year in next year's budget. WNEM
