ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Bay City Public Schools confirmed a middle school student died Tuesday afternoon after getting off his bus near MacGregor Elementary School, and EMS arrived while a crisis team and counselors are set to help students at Handy Middle School today.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Matthew Tkach and Sydney Bickerstaff live and work on an 85 foot schooner in Bay City that serves as both their home and a classroom for Great Lakes stewardship. They run programs that teach seamanship and science — sparking youth interest and supporting local maritime traditions.  MLive
  • Delta College Saginaw will host a Michigan Reconnect workshop on Tuesday, April 22 — from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The workshop will offer guidance on higher education options.  ABC12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay County commissioners voted Tuesday to hire a special prosecutor to manage over 100 criminal cases facing dismissal due to conflicts from prior defense roles—this new hire, along with a Macomb County prosecuting attorney and clerical support, will begin resolving the backlog in May and work to clear cases by summer.  WNEM
  • Bay County commissioners approved a resolution on Tuesday, April 15 to hire a special prosecutor to handle conflicted cases that the current prosecutor’s office cannot manage. Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Jurij D. Fedorak will work out of the Bay County Court Facility—earning $100,000 from the existing budget while a part-time legal assistant is hired.  MLive
