COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great Lakes Bay Animal Society will hold its 13th Fast and Furriest 5K Run/Walk on May 2 at Midland City Forest. The event features two chip-timed races — one at 9 a.m. for runners without dogs and another at 9:15 a.m. for those with dogs — and registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at 2840 E. Monroe Road.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay County library officials presented strong usage data to county commissioners Tuesday, April 14 as they sought a six-year millage renewal at a reduced rate to fund services for over 100,000 residents, noting a surge in digital circulation and community engagement.  MLive
  • Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance will dissolve after a board vote in March due to financial challenges amid high competition for nonprofit funding. The organization, which supported economic development for Bay, Isabella, Midland, and Saginaw counties, has not yet announced its closing date.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spirit forward Nikita Klepov won the OHL Rookie of Year award Tuesday when the league announced the Emms Family Award. He set new Spirit records with 97 points in 67 games and became the first rookie to lead scoring in his first two eligible seasons.  ABC12
  • Bay City Central earned a rare five to four baseball win on April 13 when darkness ended their contest with Mount Pleasant and MHSAA rules kept the score at the last complete inning; coach Brady Neitzel said the win marked their first big Valley victory in years.  MLive
