COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bay Area Community Foundation has registered a record 70 nonprofits for its annual Give Local Bay campaign, which has raised over $1.55 million in community impact since 2015. The foundation will host the inaugural Give Local Bay Boost Bash on May 5 at Pere Marquette Depot (1904 Room) with live music and fundraising updates.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in our region face higher pump prices as state averages reached $4.08 per gallon, which may impact local grocery and delivery costs—if global tensions ease, prices could soften by summer.  WNEM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last Thursday, nineteen high school juniors from Bay County graduated from the Youth Leadership program at the Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center. They built leadership skills through sessions — focused on government, business and community projects — with support from the Bay Area Chamber and Financial Plus Credit Union.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay City Department of Public Safety and Saginaw Fire Department are running live-fire training for fire crews from Bay, Midland, Saginaw, and Genesee counties. Training sessions will continue this summer — departments can register by contacting the Saginaw Fire training office.  WNEM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nearly 20 local athletes competed during the 2025-26 college basketball season at Division I, II, III, and junior college levels, with players like Macey Fegan and Kingsley Backstrom earning Dream Team honors+ many posting standout numbers while contributing to varied team records.  MLive
  • Bay City Western claimed the invite trophy at Maple Leaf on a windy day, posting top finishes with a team win and strong individual showings. Bay City Central earned an SVL lacrosse victory while Standish-Sterling scored its first win in a nine-inning softball game (walkoff RBI single).  MLive
  • Bay City Athlete of the Week recognized standout high school sports performers on April 13 from soccer, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, softball, and golf. Readers may vote until 8 p.m. Thursday to choose the top athlete—showcasing strong local sports talent.  MLive
