COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On April 24, the Leadership Bay County Class of 2026 and United Way of Bay County will host a groundbreaking ceremony at Wenonah Park from 8:30 to 9 a.m. to begin an expansion that adds new play equipment for infants and toddlers.  MLive
  • A recovery group will lead a community search for Candie Klemm at Pinconning Park Beach, 3041 E. Pinconning Road, on May 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as she has been missing since December 2025.  WNEM
  • Breaking Bread Village will host its second community forum on April 27 at Bay City Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will focus on bridges, roads and leadership while panelists will be named later—residents can email topic suggestions to the nonprofit.  MLive
  • The Arc of Bay County will host a free healthcare planning workshop on April 29 at the Alice and Jack Wirt Library at 1 p.m. and a euchre tournament fundraiser on May 3 at Knights of Columbus Hall where check-in begins at noon; both events support people with intellectual disabilities.  MLive
  • Bay County hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new community center pool on April 9; construction is underway and the aquatic facility will open in June 2027 with a zero-entry design + play areas + sports zones.  Mid Michigan NOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students at Bay City Central will perform Little Shop of Horrors at the George C. Charles Auditorium on April 16, 17, and 18 at 7:00 p.m. and April 19 at 2:00 p.m. (Director Jared Kaufman says the school’s take on the classic features a unique twist.)  WNEM
  • United We Go will host its fourth annual I Am Youth fashions show on July 12 in an expanded Saginaw County venue (location to be confirmed) to give youth ages 4 to 17 a chance to build confidence and express their personal I AM statements with designs by local artists.  ABC12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Consumers Energy plans to sell its fleet of old hydro dams for an estimated net gain of $270M while keeping systems intact to support local tourism + earn customer-funded incentives. Regulators will review the proposal later this year.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Essexville-Hampton Public Schools opened a community survey to collect resident feedback for a potential bond proposal on the August ballot. The survey is open through April 15 to help guide facility improvements in student safety + building systems and learning environments.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Between April 7 and 8, Bay County high school sports delivered exciting results in baseball and softball. All Saints’ ace Drew Andrzejewski returned with a three-inning no-hitter at Dow Diamond while teams like John Glenn and Pinconning posted sweeping wins—boosting the season’s competitive spirit.  MLive
  • Bay City high school girls soccer teams are set for a big 2026 spring season (with standout players like Claire Arnold and Brynn Corrion), as teams build on strong scoring and playmaking skills to boost their matchups.
