COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 11th annual Give Local Bay will take place on May 6 and run for 24 hours to support over 50 nonprofits in Bay and Arenac Counties. The event will offer a $35,000 match pool and a community scavenger hunt where the first person to visit each of four locations will secure a $2,000 prize donation for a nonprofit of their choice.  Mid Michigan NOW
  • United We Go will hold a casting call from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th at Bay City Town Center for youth ages 4 to 17 who have registered — inviting them to audition for the third annual I AM Youth Fashion Show. Selected participants will join workshops on leadership, self-care, body confidence, financial literacy and styling before the final June 14th show is broadcast on Roku TV — offering them a safe and empowering platform.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bay City Commission meetings have grown rowdy as some speakers used racial slurs and crude language during a debate over an immigration resolution on April 7 — Mayor Chris Girard said disrespectful comments will not be tolerated and officials plan to enforce proper decorum. The incident has heightened tensions at City Hall as the city works to restore orderly conduct during public sessions.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • On April 5, Johnsonville recalled nearly 23,000 pounds of cheddar bratwurst because hard plastic may have contaminated the product, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said. The 19-ounce packages produced on Feb. 5 were sent to stores in several states such as Michigan and consumers with the product in their freezers are urged to dispose of it or return it.  WNEM

  • Sanford Meridian's Halen McLaughlin earned a spot on the AP Division 3 all-state first team after leading the Mustangs to a 23-4 record and state quarterfinal finish—she averaged 28 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals per game—while Millington's Reese Gohsman was named to the AP second team.  MLive
