ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Saginaw County sheriff deputies responded at about 5:30 p.m. on March 30 to a traffic crash on South Meridian Road near Swan Creek Road in Lakefield Township when Nicholas Hughes, a 35-year-old from Hemlock, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree; authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. - ➤ MLive captured the local high school football rivalry in the documentary Rivalry: Battle of the Bay, which will be shown at the Central Michigan International Film Festival on Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 p.m. ET and at the Milford Independent Cinema on Friday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. ET—both screenings include a Q&A session with the film crew. - ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel warned residents after last weekend’s severe weather that fraudsters are using scams following storms to take advantage of repair and cleanup work—she advised residents to verify contractor credentials, get written estimates, and use trusted charity websites before making payments. - ➤ On April 1, Bay City installed a new four-way stop at the busy intersection of Marquette Avenue — State Street and the Department of Public Works added temporary flags to help drivers adjust to the change in traffic flow. WNEM
- ➤ Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined a coalition in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services—led by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—to contest the March 24 termination of nearly $11 billion in public health grants, including $379.3 million owed to Michigan. The lawsuit claims the grants were ended without valid explanation and seeks a temporary restraining order to block further terminations. WNEM

- ➤ Bay City Comfort Care settled a wrongful death lawsuit for nearly $1.8 million after staff failed to check on resident Barbara K. Baranowski when she choked in April 2022+ her family filed the suit in May. On Feb. 18, Judge Joseph K. Sheeran approved the payment plan that distributes funds to her estate, children, and 12 grandchildren+ legal fees as well. MLive
