- ➤ The Hispanic Leadership Initiative held a town hall meeting today at the SVRC Marketplace to focus on neighborhood safety — residents and local leaders worked to strengthen community security. Andrew Wendt said the organization plans to hold another town hall next month. Mid Michigan NOW

- ➤ Bavarian Blast Waterpark, Michigan’s largest indoor waterpark, is softly opening today at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth—offering hotel guests and select day pass holders a first look at the $80 million expansion that features 16 waterslides, a giant wave pool, and Michigan’s first swim-up bar. The project is expected to create 80 new jobs—boosting tourism—with a full grand opening planned later this year. MLive
- ➤ On March 20th, a local tourism company hosted a lunch and learn event in Frankenmuth at the Bavarian Inn Lodge—co-hosted with the Xavier DeGroat Autism Foundation—to discuss ways to make the region more welcoming for neurodivergent travelers. - ➤ Former Auburn Public Works director Ashlie K. House was charged on March 14 with one count of embezzlement by agent for allegedly taking between $1,000 and $20,000 from city funds—she faces up to five years in prison and a fine. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering tips to avoid problems as black bears leave their dens for food this spring—more than 10,000 live in the Upper Peninsula and about 2,000 live in the northern Lower Peninsula. Residents are advised to secure garbage, pet food, and bird feeders, clean grills, and use electric fencing for beehives to lessen bear conflicts. WNEM
