  • Bay City held its 52nd St. Patrick’s Day Race Expo on Saturday with an expo held at Bay City Central High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Leprechaun races for kids at 2 p.m.; the event drew over 4,300 participants and benefited the Bay Area Women's Center + Girls on the Run Great Lakes Bay.  ABC12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The MI Table restaurant in Bay City closed as owner Amberlyn Hales announced March 17th a new vision to evolve the farm-to-table concept into a venue that will include a garden and space for events — the building is now for sale at $350,000.  WNEM

CRIME NEWS

  • Bay City police say a 28-year-old man, Kane Elliot Crockett, died after emergency surgery following a shooting on Saturday shortly after 2 a.m. at 18th and S. Sherman Streets — the suspect, described as a light-skinned black male driving a red sedan, sped from the scene — anyone with information is urged to contact the Bay City Department of Public Safety.  Mid Michigan NOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, March 17, Bay City commissioners approved a resolution by a 5—4 vote that designates the city as a welcoming community by using local resources for public safety and building trust between residents and law enforcement. Introduced by 7th Ward Commissioner Chris Runberg, the measure comes amid national shifts in immigration policy.  MLive

  • Eight Bay City area swimmers competed at the MHSAA swimming and diving championships—John Glenn's Henry Schanbeck launched from the diving block—and all qualifiers showcased their skills at the event.  MLive
